The Outdated Placeholder Tech on IKEA Showfloor

Posted in: Technology

Two weeks ago, I was shopping at (read exploring) the IKEA store in Milton Keynes with another person after sending my new “Flintan” chair back home in the car.

I had visited that store a few times in the past and always noticed one thing with (apart from the fake technology used as placeholders) the showrooms is the “real” technology featured as placeholders for those “rooms” is incredible outdated.

A few examples.

Old LCD television, mounted on the wall. Below is a television table with a DVD play and Xbox 360 stored.

First example is a 2015-era budget television with a mid-2000s budget DVD player and a Xbox 360 with a broken power button (with a LED strip that is falling off the wall).

Monitor stand in Ikea showroom with a monitor on top.

The second example is IKEA advising a monitor stand by showing it holding up a crappy mid-2000s LCD TV.

Monitor on desk with advertising sticker pasted on.

The third example is just a super-old monitor placed on a desk to advertise an IKEA chair (and the ‘IKEA Business Network’ on a dirty sticker that is peeling off the monitor).

Just a short fun blog post. A big of a laugh at one of IKEA’s oddities.
